Chapter 7   A Recipe for Pain

Popping into the next world, Gigi can’t help but message Kammy about her disturbing question.

“Uh, is there something I need to know, girlfriend?”

“What do you mean?” is the confused response.

“Is there something inappropriate going on that you know about?” Gigi doesn’t bother tiptoeing.

“Oh, no, no, I didn’t mean it to sound like that at all.”  Kammy is anxious to clear up yet another verbal mishap she’s apparently committed today, so she switches the conversation from nano-chat to out loud with everyone.  “Guys, I didn’t mean to sound like I was implying anything bad about the school or the System Guards.  I was just asking a question.  I’m sorry….”  The teachers reassure her that there is no reason to apologize as her question wasn’t as bad as she thinks it was.

Gigi messages her again.  “Do you feel a little better now?”

“Not really,” Kammy admits.  “I already humiliated myself, Faye, Elfie and Paul in one stupid moment.  Better be careful, or you’ll be next, I’m sure.  I still have you and Owan to embarrass.”

“Kamron, don’t pity yourself now,” Gigi firmly but lovingly advises.  “You know I’m there for you to hear what you have to say, but I’m not going to let my sister beat herself up.  Now, let’s try again.”

Kammy Crystal’s nano-chat face is covered with an expression of defeat as she contemplates her poor grasp of social interaction.  “I just hate always getting it wrong.  If I’m quiet and keep to myself, I get grumpy and picky.  If I open up, I either get too flirty or too absorbed in learning to think about what I’m saying or doing.  We all remember when my studies almost ruined our friendship because I took being a strategist a little too far with the CFA.”

Interrupting this thought, Gigi points out, “Did you forget that you won that match?  My best friend is the Teenage System Guards CFA Champion.  You even got a trophy and everything after it was over.  That’s not something to take lightly.
