(Bev: Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, converts from various cultures would hold on to their traditions and superstitions as they’d join this new church, culminating in a system in the 1500s that many Catholics recognized needed adjustments.  When they voiced these concerns, the leadership at that time was corrupt and tried to punish them instead of listen, so those church members ended up forming their own denominations.)

(Scott: Now, this all happened during the transition from the Renaissance to the Age of Enlightenment, meaning a lot of other things were taking place in history besides just the Reformation.  In fact, moving back a couple of decades, what happened in 1492?)
