The dead dudes were David’s general, Joab, and the man who cursed David during the time Absalom was causing the king havoc. Both of these individuals had done things worry of death but were spared during David’s life for various reasons. But now, we skip forward to Solomon’s son, Rehoboam. When he lost the kingdom due to ignoring the advice of the elders, the new king of Israel set up golden calves in the northern part of the territory since the temple still belonged to Rehoboam.
